Rhodes....

Of course, no account of this trip would be complete without mention of Keith and Renee, who worked so hard, with such competence, and good cheer. (The mosaic workers of Rhodes do good work, and so quickly, too, of course. If you didn't encounter this gate, it was near the top of the old town.)

We saw many wonderful things on the trip, many of them very ancient. Rhodes had ancient things, and some "merely" very old things, and a "modern/old" walled city that was fun.

I may have gotten carried away...

... but if you are feeling kind, humor me. Take a moment to visit a page where this map is enlarged and annotated. Rhodes was good, but other places were even more special. It is just "the luck of the draw" that my Rhodes account, particularly on the "map" sub page, and sub-sub page!, is so extensive.

In Tauck's care, we always had very nice meals indeed. At other times, we were "turned loose", given a chance to have adventures. Fearing needing to replace my entire warerobe if calorie intake was not curtailled, and for other reasons, I tended to seek out places local "ordinary" people might eat. Never disappointed. Frequently delighted, as in Rhodes.

I'd had a satisfactory session buying a pair of trousers from someone not in the heart of the touristic area... and asked him for a "local" restaurant recommendation. He sent me to Stavros's, just around the corner... The trouser seller's daughter worked there! And very nice it was too, as you can see from the above. It was at a "tee" junction of small alleys (note from photo: CLEAN "alleys") off the "main drag". My table, in the shade, more or less at the spot from where the picture of "Atlantis" was taken. And the price of lunch was agreeable, too!
