This particular tutorial is more than usually sketchy... please don't judge my other tutorials from this. However, while it may lack guidance, there is source code for a program using the Dallas (Maxim) MicroLan DS2423 counter. Counters are cool... I'm using one to record rainfall, and another to measure windspeed. The source code is heavily commented... see it for the "tutorial" element in this.
