The database element of the OpenOffice suite has been around for a long time now.
If you have a long memory, back to before OpenOffice version 2, you may recall things about Adabas, which came with Star Office, which was a commercial version of Open Office.
For a long time now, Open Office's database, "Base", aka "ooBase", has had nothing to do with Adabas or Star Office.
Remember: Open Office, including ooBase, is free!
Don't let that fool you, though. Big organizations, governmental and civilian, are adopting it as their standard office suite... and saving million$, and still Getting The Job Done.
And Open Office is multi-platform. This means that sharing documents between Linux, Mac and Windows users is not a pain.

Page tested for compliance with INDUSTRY (not MS-only) standards, using the free, publicly accessible validator at validator.w3.org. Mostly passes. There were two "unknown attributes" in the Google+ button code. Sigh.
