Cover note re- Animals Seen On Trip To

Botswana and Zambia

Okavango and Mfuwe with Cornell Adult University

26 October - 7 November 2008

Notes on bird and other animal sightings, Botswana/ Zambia trip, 26Oct - 7 November 2008.

Even before deplaning upon arrival at Johannesburg, I'd seen five nice birds!

But this record is about what I saw in the two camps I visited.

The first was Chitabe, in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. On the 7km drive from the airstrip to the camp, we saw...

Hooded vulture, lilac breasted roller, red billed quelea, red billed hornbill.

What this list is NOT: A "proper" "scientific" study of what birds can be seen in the two sites surveyed.

What it is: An attempt to convince you that anyone can see an interesting range of birds on a visit to either camp.

The identifications were by my guide. I know birds, but not South African birds. I can attest that we saw different birds... I would have noticed if a given bird was served up with two names.

Note also the time of year. And realise that I was not in a group of "serious" birders.... we didn't wrinkle out every LBJ.

Name errors...

Not all animals listed every time seen.

(Crested guinea fowl was at hotel in Livingstone.)
