Flying over Colorado

18 September, 2010

This is just a quick, crude start...

Photos from a flight from Eagle (EGE), west of Vail. We flew NE towards Mc Elroy Airfield Kremmling, Colorado (20V), turned SW, flew across west face of the Gores, and back to EGE, above i-70, passing Vail.

The photos are not well organized yet, nor much text written. They aren't in order. My thanks to my excellent instructor, C.R., from Due West Aviation for a good flying lesson and for the excellent framing of the shots. My apologies to him and you for some technical deficiencies in the following... but the glorious Colorado Rockies made the pictures still of interest, I hope??

This only hints at the sublime beauty of this ridge. The yellows were alive.

What you see below is the Mount of the Holy Cross, south of Vail, as seen from the NE (or the top of Vail mountain!) At the right parts of the year, the "groove" is filled with snow, as are two horizontal grooves, not easily seen here... and you get a well proportioned cross. See the Wikipedia article.

If you want more travel pictures, start at those I took in Istanbul and Athens in 2009, as a consolation to help me endure the fact that not enough people signed up for the CAU trip to Tanzania. From there, you can go to other trip albums, many of them made possible by CAU.

Hope you've enjoyed the above?
